Our Mission

Since 1967, Craigwiel Gardens is independently owned by Craigwiel Corporation, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. It is a NOT FOR PROFIT, CHARITABLE organization. We are a community committed to providing residential and community services that enhance the lives and potential of each person we engage.

Craigwiel Gardens is a faith-based organization providing Long-Term Care, Adult Day progams, Independent Living Seniors Apartments and Community Support Services to meet the needs of the Seniors of North Middlesex and area.

MEET OUR PEOPLE

Craigwiel Gardens has a dedicated team including our Board of Directors and Management Team. Read on to discover a little more about them, and how to contact them.

Board of Directors

Jennifer Gillies, Chair - Board Member since 1992

Jennifer lived in Ailsa Craig for 44 years. She is a Registered Nurse who began her career in a hospital setting, followed by a move to Long Term Care at Strathmere Lodge where she worked first as a Charge Nurse, and then for 27 years as Director of Care.

Irene Howarth, Vice-Chair - Board Member since 2009

Irene’s professional career includes 18 years of administrative work in nursing homes and foster care agencies in North Middlesex and 23 years as a Client Services Co-ordinator for a private rehabilitation company.

Rebecca Bender, Secretary - Board Member since 2018

Rebecca is a life long resident of the area. She has been an educator, in both New Brunswick and Ontario for more than 30 years. Her relationship with elderly members of her family and a wish to see the community thrive have helped to form her desire to serve as a board member.

Marilyn Gingerich - Board Member since 2018

Marilyn’s professional career was as a teacher in Toronto. And later as the Program Director at a multi-generational community in East York. Marilyn’s father was very instrumental in starting Craigwiel Gardens.

Jane Zoeger - Board Member since 2022

Jane’s professional career includes 16 years in management in Long Term Care. She is a Registered Nurse with a Master of Business Administration degree (Western). Jane has served on community Boards and her previous work experience includes hospital administration and business marketing.

Bev Shipley - Board Member since 2022

Bev and his wife Barb live on a farm in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre. Bev has had a lifelong career in agriculture. Having graduated in Business Management, he has been associated with a number of organizations over the years. Bev served 20 years on municipal council first as reeve and councillor for Lobo Township and then Mayor of the Municipality of Middlesex Centre. He then was elected Member of Parliament for Lambton Kent Middlesex for almost 14 years until his retirement in 2019. Bev is a business person with a love for his community, as well as the agriculture industry.

David Dryburgh, Treasurer - Board Member since 2021

David resides in Ailsa Craig with his wife raising their young family. From his experience in the financial industry, he understands the need for both quality and affordable long-term care. Being such an important organization in the community, David looks to contribute to its long-term success in any way he can.

Corporate Services

Melissa Byelis - Temporary Nutrition Manager

Melissa graduated from Culinary Management at Fanshawe College and is a Registered Nutrition Manager with CSNM. Baking and watching her large garden grow in the warm months keeps her busy. She has an amazingly supportive husband, as well as an energetic golden retriever and 4 shop cats to keep her on her toes. She and her husband reside in Parkhill and is actively involved with the Emmanual Baptist Church. Melissa takes pride in looking after all our residents’ nutritional needs.

Sarah Campbell - Acting Executive Director

Sarah has been with Craigwiel Gardens for 23 in many roles including; recreation aide where she provided entertainment to our residents, Creative Director at the Adult Day Program where she organized all the recreational programs for clients, then was promoted to Director of Community and Recreation Services and this has lead her to her current position of Acting Executive Director. In this role she will lead staff, and be there for residents and their families, liaison with the apartment tenants, and continue to connect with clients from the Adult Day Program. Sarah grew up in Ailsa Craig, and along with her family, live close to the area and are still very connected to the community, inside and outside of Criagwiel Gardens.

Shannon Churchill - Reception and Administrative Assistant

Shannon will be the first voice and probably the first person you will see in the Administration office at Craigwiel Gardens as Receptionist/Admin Assistant. She will assist Laura Salton, Administrative Coordinator, and reports directly to Acting Executive Director, Sarah Campbell.

Laura Salton - Administrative Coordinator

Laura is a resident of Ailsa Craig. She retired from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, under the Ontario Public Service in 2022 after 36 years of service. She started with MCCSS at Oxford Reginal Centre in Woodstock as a Residential Counsellor, then transferred to the London Branch in the Family Benefits office where she was a Parental Support Worker until the change of the program to the Ontario Disability Support Program. Under SDSP she was a Debt Recovery Officer and retired as a Caseworker. Retirement didn’t last long as Laura wanted to give back to her community and Craigwiel Gardens is an excellent employer to accomplish that.

Jeff Taylor - Maintenance Manager

Jeff has an extensive knowledge of how buildings and machines should work and operate. Jeff was the perfect hire for the Maintenance Team at Craigwiel Gardens. He is a proud husband, father, grandfather and dotes on his dog, named Maggie. Cars, motorcycles or anything with an engine keeps Jeff busy in his down time. There is no job too big or too small for Jeff to handle looking after the safety and well being of our residents, apartment tenants or our day program clients. Leading a highly motived maintenance team, Jeff not only leads but follows through with his commitments and detailed work assurances.

Long Term Care

Nicole Fleischauer, RN - Director of Care

Nicole has the position of Director of Care at Craigwiel Gardens and reports to the CEO. Nicole is responsible for managing all aspects of the nursing department to ensure exceptional resident care.

Jess Garay, RN - Assistant Director of Care

As Assistant Director of Care, Jess works in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the best care possible for our residents. She comes to the Craigwiel Team from the hospital setting where she was a bedside and Charge Nurse for 15 years working in Oncology. Jess resides in the community of Parkhill with her husband and 2 boys. Together they enjoy exploring nature, adventuring, and raising monarch butterflies.

Adult Day Programs

Pam Tweddle - Director of Community and Recreation Services

Pam has worked at Craigwiel Gardens for 12 years in the Adult Day Program as Creative Director and Manager. This role helped ensured clients and caregivers received support to allow their loved ones to stay at home longer. It was a natural transition to her current acting role of Director of Community and Recreation Services. This role collaborates with staff to ensure residents and clients have a Social, Emotional and Cognitive overall wellbeing. Pam and her family live on a local family farm and enjoy spending time outdoors.
