Our Mission

Since 1967, Craigwiel Gardens is independently owned by Craigwiel Corporation, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. It is a NOT FOR PROFIT, CHARITABLE organization. We are a community committed to providing residential and community services that enhance the lives and potential of each person we engage.

MEET OUR PEOPLE

Craigwiel Gardens has a dedicated team including our Board of Directors and Management Team. Read on to discover a little more about them, and how to contact them.

Board of Directors

Jennifer loved her job as Director of Care and retired from there. Jennifer’s professional experience combined with a true love for Craigwiel Gardens has made her a very valuable asset to our Board of Directors and organization.

Jennifer Gillies - Chair - Board Member since 1992

Jennifer lived in Ailsa Craig for 44 years. She is a Registered Nurse who began her career in a hospital setting, followed by a move to Long Term Care at Strathmere Lodge where she worked first as a Charge Nurse, and then for 27 years as Director of Care.

She has enjoyed community volunteer involvement including Parkhill WW Public School and North Middlesex District High School. She has been a member of the Nairn Mennonite Church for 38 years. Irene was introduced to Craigwiel Gardens in 1979 when she worked as a part-time secretary.

Irene Howarth - Vice-Chair - Board Member since 2009

Irene’s professional career includes 18 years of administrative work in nursing homes and foster care agencies in North Middlesex and 23 years as a Client Services Co-ordinator for a private rehabilitation company.

Rebecca Bender - Secretary - Board Member since 2018

Rebecca is a life long resident of the area. She has been an educator, in both New Brunswick and Ontario for more than 30 years. Her relationship with elderly members of her family and a wish to see the community thrive have helped to form her desire to serve as a board member.

She has volunteered in several capacities, including starting Meals on Wheels in East Toronto, drop ins for seniors, planning programs for families, seniors in apartments, retirement living and long-term care residents. Marilyn has served on numerous boards and she currently operates a tour company for seniors.

Marilyn Gingerich - Board Member since 2018

Marilyn’s professional career was as a teacher in Toronto. And later as the Program Director at a multi-generational community in East York. Marilyn’s father was very instrumental in starting Craigwiel Gardens.

Sara Graham - Board Member since 2021

Sara moved from Toronto to Ailsa Craig in 2019. She has primarily worked in the non profit sector, specifically in community outreach and started her own small business in 2020. Sara’s personal family experience with not for profit long term care homes has made her passionate about patient rights and caring for our elderly.

Mary Hodgins - Board Member since 2020

Mary joined Craigwiel Gardens board in September of 2020 as a Community Member . She has recently retired from an active R.N. nursing career of 45 years, 27 of those at Chartwell Parkhill Long Term Care . Mary has experienced the transition from nursing in an older building to a new building, seeing the difference it made for the residents, their families and staff.

David Dryburgh - Treasurer - Board Member since 2021

David resides in Ailsa Craig with his wife raising their young family. From his experience in the financial industry, he understands the need for both quality and affordable long-term care. Being such an important organization in the community, David looks to contribute to its long-term success in any way he can.

Corporate Services

Sarah Campbell - Director Community & Recreation Services

Sarah manages the Adult Day Program, overseeing staffing, admissions to the program, the budgets, as well as any submissions that need to be made to the SWLHIN on behalf of the Day Program.

Shannon Churchill - Reception and Administrative Assistant

Shannon will be the first voice and probably the first person you will see in the Administration office at Craigwiel Gardens as Receptionist/Admin Assistant. She will assist Natasha Morris, Administrative Coordinator and report directly to CEO, Ernie Harris.

Ernie Harris - CEO

Driven by a love for the elderly nurtured by his deceased grandmother and his 95-year old mother, Ernie welcomes another opportunity to serve our residents at Craigholme with love, respect, and humility. On an extended leave from his pastoral duties at Nairn Mennonite Church, Ernie began as Interim CEO of Craigwiel Gardens on August 3, 2020.

Jacqui Moraal - Coordinator, Finance Office

Jacqui assists in finance with Accounts Payable and Receivables, and is an integral part of the processing of payroll.

Tasha Morris - Administrative Coordinator

As Administrative Coordinator, Natasha, brings 20 years of experience in the field of office administration. Her primary job is to support the CEO and Management Team and she also manages the Independent Living Apartments.

Kate Arnold - Human Resources Manager

Long Term Care

Nicole Fleischauer - RN, Director of Care

Nicole has the position of Director of Care at Craigwiel Gardens and reports to the CEO. Nicole is responsible for managing all aspects of the nursing department to ensure exceptional resident care.

John Hamilton - Director of Environmental Services, Property Manager

John oversees the housekeeping and laundry departments and their staff, as well as maintenance and property management for the Long Term Care, Day Centre and Apartments.

Sarah McComb - Director of Food Services, Health & Safety Officer

As Director of Food Services, Sarah manages the kitchen, cooks, dietary aides and that daily nutrition is a priority. Sarah works with our Registered Dietician and diligently ensures that we have healthy choices and residents’ favourites available on the menu.

Adult Day Programs

Pam Tweddle - Day Program Coordinator

Pam works on the creative aspects of the program, ensuring clients are receiving programming that meet their physical, emotional and cognitive needs.
