Our Mission

Since 1967, Craigwiel Gardens is independently owned by Craigwiel Corporation, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. It is a NOT FOR PROFIT, CHARITABLE organization. We are a community committed to providing residential and community services that enhance the lives and potential of each person we engage.

FOUNDED BY THE NAIRN MENNONITE CHURCH TO DEMONSTRATE CHRISTIAN VALUES IN ACTION. WE EMBRACE PEOPLE OF ALL FAITHS, BELIEFS AND BACKGROUNDS. WE BELIEVE:

Craigwiel Gardens is a faith-based organization providing Long-Term Care, Adult Day progams, Independent Living Seniors Apartments and Community Support Services to meet the needs of the Seniors of North Middlesex and area.

MEET OUR PEOPLE

Craigwiel Gardens has a dedicated team including our Board of Directors and Management Team. Read on to discover a little more about them, and how to contact them.

Board of Directors

Jennifer loved her job as Director of Care and retired from there. Jennifer’s professional experience combined with a true love for Craigwiel Gardens has made her a very valuable asset to our Board of Directors and organization.

Jennifer Gillies - Chair - Board Member since 1992

Jennifer lived in Ailsa Craig for 44 years. She is a Registered Nurse who began her career in a hospital setting, followed by a move to Long Term Care at Strathmere Lodge where she worked first as a Charge Nurse, and then for 27 years as Director of Care.

She has enjoyed community volunteer involvement including Parkhill WW Public School and North Middlesex District High School. She has been a member of the Nairn Mennonite Church for 38 years. Irene was introduced to Craigwiel Gardens in 1979 when she worked as a part-time secretary.

Irene Howarth - Vice-Chair - Board Member since 2009

Irene’s professional career includes 18 years of administrative work in nursing homes and foster care agencies in North Middlesex and 23 years as a Client Services Co-ordinator for a private rehabilitation company.

Rebecca Bender - Secretary - Board Member since 2018

Rebecca is a life long resident of the area. She has been an educator, in both New Brunswick and Ontario for more than 30 years. Her relationship with elderly members of her family and a wish to see the community thrive have helped to form her desire to serve as a board member.

She has volunteered in several capacities, including starting Meals on Wheels in East Toronto, drop ins for seniors, planning programs for families, seniors in apartments, retirement living and long-term care residents. Marilyn has served on numerous boards and she currently operates a tour company for seniors.

Marilyn Gingerich - Board Member since 2018

Marilyn’s professional career was as a teacher in Toronto. And later as the Program Director at a multi-generational community in East York. Marilyn’s father was very instrumental in starting Craigwiel Gardens.

Jane Zoeger- Board Member since 2022

Jane’s professional career includes 16 years in management in Long Term Care. She is a Registered Nurse with a Master of Business Administration degree (Western). Jane has served on community Boards and her previous work experience includes hospital administration and business marketing.

Bev Shipley- Board Member since 2022

Bev and his wife Barb live on a farm in the Municipality of Middlesex Centre. Bev has had a lifelong career in agriculture. Having graduated in Business Management, he has been associated with a number of organizations over the years. Bev served 20 years on municipal council first as reeve and councillor for Lobo Township and then Mayor of the Municipality of Middlesex Centre. He then was elected Member of Parliament for Lambton Kent Middlesex for almost 14 years until his retirement in 2019. Bev is a business person with a love for his community, as well as the agriculture industry.

David Dryburgh - Treasurer - Board Member since 2021

David resides in Ailsa Craig with his wife raising their young family. From his experience in the financial industry, he understands the need for both quality and affordable long-term care. Being such an important organization in the community, David looks to contribute to its long-term success in any way he can.

Sarah Campbell - Director of Community and Recreation Services

Shannon Churchill - Reception and Administrative Assistant

Shannon will be the first voice and probably the first person you will see in the Administration office at Craigwiel Gardens as Receptionist/Admin Assistant. She will assist Laura Salton, Administrative Coordinator, and report directly to CEO, Ernie Harris.

Ernie Harris - CEO

Driven by a love for the elderly nurtured by his deceased grandmother, Ernie welcomes the opportunity to serve our residents, employees, tenants, and clients at Craigwiel Gardens with love, respect, and humility. Ernie brings to the CEO position many years of senior management experience in both government and community settings and is excited to use his skills and experience to enhance the lives of residents of Craigholme and all who work at Craigwiel Gardens. Ernie is thrilled to be part of the "Building a New Craigholme" campaign because he sees it as one step closer to having a Home with more room and amenities to match the excellent care we already provide.

Long Term Care

Nicole Fleischauer - RN, Director of Care

Nicole has the position of Director of Care at Craigwiel Gardens and reports to the CEO. Nicole is responsible for managing all aspects of the nursing department to ensure exceptional resident care.

As Assistant Director of care, Karen brings 30 years experience as a Registered Nurse and 16 years in The Long Term Care sector. Reports to the Director of Care, Nicole Fleischauer. Main responsibility is to support the front-line staff.

Adult Day Programs

Pam Tweddle - Day Program Coordinator

Pam works on the creative aspects of the program, ensuring clients are receiving programming that meet their physical, emotional and cognitive needs.
