Since 1967, Craigwiel Gardens is independently owned by Craigwiel Corporation, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. It is a NOT FOR PROFIT, CHARITABLE organization. We are a community committed to providing residential and community services that enhance the lives and potential of each person we engage.

Jennifer loved her job as Director of Care and retired from there. Jennifer’s professional experience combined with a true love for Craigwiel Gardens has made her a very valuable asset to our Board of Directors and organization.

Jennifer Gilles - Chair - Board Member since 1992

Jennifer lived in Ailsa Craig for 44 years. She is a Registered Nurse who began her career in a hospital setting, followed by a move to Long Term Care at Strathmere Lodge where she worked first as a Charge Nurse, and then for 27 years as Director of Care.

Irene Howarth portrait

She has enjoyed community volunteer involvement including Parkhill WW Public School and North Middlesex District High School. She has been a member of the Nairn Mennonite Church for 38 years. Irene was introduced to Craigwiel Gardens in 1979 when she worked as a part-time secretary.

Irene Howarth - Vice-Chair - Board Member since 2009

Irene’s professional career includes 18 years of administrative work in nursing homes and foster care agencies in North Middlesex and 23 years as a Client Services Co-ordinator for a private rehabilitation company.

Rebecca Bender - Board Member since 2018

Rebecca is a long time resident of North Middlesex. She is a teacher whose career began in New Brunswick but has been with the Thames Valley DSB for the last 31 years.

Portrait of Marilyn Gingerich

She has volunteered in several capacities, including starting Meals on Wheels in East Toronto, drop ins for seniors, planning programs for families, seniors in apartments, retirement living and long-term care residents. Marilyn has served on numerous boards and she currently operates a tour company for seniors.

Marilyn’s professional career was as a teacher in Toronto. And later as the Program Director at a multi-generational community in East York. Marilyn’s father was very instrumental in starting Craigwiel Gardens.

Mary Hodgins

Mary Hodgins- Board Member since 2020

Mary joined Craigwiel Gardens board in September of 2020 as a Community Member . She has recently retired from an active R.N. nursing career of 45 years, 27 of those at Chartwell Parkhill Long Term Care . Mary has experienced the transition from nursing in an older building to a new building, seeing the difference it made for the residents, their families and staff.

Teresa Young

Teresa Young- Board Member since 2020

Teresa has resided north of Ailsa Craig for 25 years. Teresa believes that community involvement has a lasting, positive impact on society at large and is important to be involved in the community. Teresa has served as a Director and Chair at Crest Support Services and is excited to have joined the Board at Craigwiel Gardens.

Sarah Campbell - Director Community & Recreation Services

Sarah manages the Adult Day Program, overseeing staffing, admissions to the program, the budgets, as well as any submissions that need to be made to the SWLHIN on behalf of the Day Program.

Shannon Churchill - Campaign Coordinator

Shannon supports the Building A New Craigholme Campaign and its community driven committee. She is committed to assisting the community in raising $1.25 million of the $18.6 million rebuild project.

Ernie Harris - CEO

Driven by a love for the elderly nurtured by his deceased grandmother and his 95-year old mother, Ernie welcomes another opportunity to serve our residents at Craigholme with love, respect, and humility. On an extended leave from his pastoral duties at Nairn Mennonite Church, Ernie began as Interim CEO of Craigwiel Gardens on August 3, 2020.

Jacqui Moraal - Finance Assistant

Jacqui assists in finance with Accounts Payable and Receivables, and is an integral part of the processing of payroll.

Gordon Saylor - Director of Finance

Gordon is a Chartered Professional Accountant with many years of experience in the not-for-profit and charity sectors. Gordon came to Craigwiel from a Ministry of Health-funded agency so is well-versed in the reporting needs of Craigwiel. Gordon’s role is not only to perform the accounting and finance functions but also to provide information to the management team and the Board of Directors to facilitate critical decision-making.

Nicole Fleischauer - RN, Assistant Director of Care

Nicole is a support to the Director of Care and the nursing department, handling admissions of all new residents and respite stays. She works in a supportive role, assisting the Director of Care in many administrative areas.

John Hamilton - Director of Environmental Services, Property Manager

John oversees the housekeeping and laundry departments and their staff, as well as maintenance and property management for the Long Term Care, Day Centre and Apartments.

Sarah McComb - Director of Food Services, Health & Safety Officer

As Director of Food Services, Sarah manages the kitchen, cooks, dietary aides and that daily nutrition is a priority. Sarah works with our Registered Dietician and diligently ensures that we have healthy choices and residents’ favourites available on the menu.
